How to change the password to a PST file.

(Outlook 2007, Outlook 2003, Outlook XP, Outlook 2000, Outlook 98, Outlook 97)

It often happens that you need to change the password to Outlook Personal Folders (a PST file). For instance, you suspect that someone knows your current Outlook password. Or you constantly forget your current password and want to change it for a simpler one or remove it altogether (see "How to remove the password to a PST file"). If you do not remember the current password to the PST file, use PST password recovery software.

Attention! Outlook can support several PST file simultaneously. Each PST file may have its own password. If you suspect that someone knows the password to your PST files, change passwords for all PST files.

You can change the PST password in the Outlook "Change Password" dialog box opened from the "Properties" dialog box of the corresponding PST file:

  1. Select "Properties" in the drop-down menu of your PST file
  2. Click the "Advanced" button
  3. Click the "Change Password" button
  4. Type the current password to the PST file in the "Old password" field
  5. Type the new password in the "New password" and "Verify password" fields
  6. Click the "OK" button.
